My path in education began at a very young age not only because I attended schools designed to train future educators, but because teaching runs through my veins. My parents were teachers, as were my grandparents and many of my uncles and aunts. This educational legacy not only shaped my professional journey but also strengthened my conviction in the transformative power of continuous teacher education.
After completing high school which itself was a teacher-training institution I had the opportunity to begin teaching early on. I chose to pursue two degrees simultaneously: one in Physical Education and the other in Spanish Language with a focus on Early Childhood Education. This dual preparation gave me a strong foundation, but my quest for knowledge did not stop there. I moved to another country and immersed myself in diverse educational philosophies such as Montessori, Reggio Emilia, and Freirean pedagogy. Each new approach broadened my perspective and reinforced my belief that continuous learning is the cornerstone of effective teaching.
In 2025, even though I already held two professional degrees in education, I chose to pursue a third degree in Seattle, along with a master’s program at Eastern Washington University. This commitment to lifelong learning has made me a more innovative, creative, and effective educator. The more experiences and academic training a teacher acquires, the easier it becomes to navigate the complexities of the classroom from communicating meaningfully with students and families to designing activities that nurture growth.
Ultimately, encouraging continued education among teachers is not just a matter of professional development; it is a powerful way to transform the educational experience of every child we teach.
